Seriously Fun

SERIOUSLY FUN is a large-scale cubic textile grid installation suspended over the MoMA PS1 courtyard. Supported on steel wires stretched between the concrete walls the textile grid hosts a series of steel mobiles that invite play and interaction.

Every interaction creates ripples in the fabric cloud, new lines of communication across the courtyard. The unpredictable movement and shared experience generates serendipituous encounters and a suspension of normal social life.

The abstract mobiles are nothing in themselves but food for the imagination. Teasing human interaction, they invite people to sit, hang, climb, stretch, lounge, lean, pull or improvise.

The textile grids consist of two different hues but color is a relative medium. Combined with the transparency and geometry of the fabric, the clouds become infinite shades, endless gradients of summer’s hues.

Depending on wind, light, sun, water mist, physical location and movement, the perception of the fabric is unique to each moment in time. The clouds, their shadow, the experience is never twice the same.
